Joint investment in Electricity North West, a power distribution business in the United Kingdom

All shares of Electricity North West, a power distribution company in the Manchester and Cumbria regions in the UK, was transferred from JP Morgan Asset Management and First State Investments to Equitix, CNIC, Kansai Electric Power, Mitsubishi UFJ Lease and Daiwa Energy & Infrastructure.

Key Points of the Investment

Electricity North West is a regulated power distribution company that exclusively operates in the Manchester region in the UK, and stable cash flow is expected because of the various regulations supported by the administrator. Through the engagement in this project, we aim to accumulate knowledge in regulated business prior to the separation of power transmission and distribution in Japan.

Industry Perspectives and Future Actions

In the UK, the shift to EV's is in progress, reflecting a growing interest in the environmental issues. As the government takes measures to spread heat pumps, electricity demand is expected to further increase. In the power distribution industry, it is common to see similar regulations to take place in different countries, and we expect the knowledge we gained from this investment to be utilized in further participation in this business area in and outside Japan.
